People wanted to feed me, women wanted to marry me, kids got excited, men wanted to buy me drinks.
And, of course, some people were totally indifferent.
Ye (pronounced ‘yay’) is in Mon State, Myanmar and, for the moment, is a little off the main travel route.
Photos in this slideshow were taken during one day while journeying by motorbike to Banana Mountain (Ko Yin Lay), Bin Le Wa beach and the village of Andin.

Certainly very exotic over there. Very interesting statues. I got given a Buddhist statue today as present. It was an elephant! The person who gave it to me was from Sri Lanka so I wondered if it was a Hindu deity or statue. He said no, and that it was Buddhist. I had never seen a Buddhist deity which didn’t have a human form. Enjoy the drinks.

Thanks, Brendan. I know the elephant is sacred and revered in Buddhism, but the deity side of things probably stems from Hinduism or Brahmanism – there’s a lot of overlap.

Thanks, Peg. I think they’re adopting western norms when it comes to marital status, so I guess that puts a limit on it:) The women at the monastery were all Thai as far as I could ascertain. Never found out why they were in Myanmar, but it could be that funds for the temple complex are coming from Thailand, though that’s just a guess.
